The Hidden Beauty of Autumn’s Fall
Written by Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar
Autumn often arrives in our lives quietly, almost unnoticed. One day, we wake up and realize that the vibrant leaves of our personal summers have begun to fall, leaving us exposed. We stand there, our branches bare, feeling vulnerable as the winds of life strip away the comforts we once held close. But even in this bareness, we are still standing, aren’t we? We are still here. And while it may seem like the world is watching us in this state, what they see is only part of the story. What lies beneath, hidden from the eyes of others, is where our true strength lives.
It’s easy to think that the changing colors and the falling leaves mean the end of something important. We see the fading beauty on our branches and assume we are losing ourselves. But what if I told you that this shedding is not a sign of weakness? What if this season of loss is actually a moment of preparation a clearing of the old to make room for something new? Our branches may look barren, but our roots are alive and well, deeper than ever before.
You see, our roots the core of who we are are not affected by the seasons. They remain grounded, connected to the source of all life, even when everything else seems to be falling apart. It’s the roots that matter, the unseen strength that sustains us. Just because the world can’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there. They are the source of our resilience, the quiet reminder that we are never truly alone, no matter how naked we may feel.
There’s something powerful in this letting go, in allowing the leaves to fall. It’s a reminder that life is a series of cycles, and that each phase has its purpose. When the world sees nothing but bare branches, the Creator sees a soul that is preparing for renewal. It’s in this season of stripping away that we are called to remember who we really are. We are not defined by what we display on the outside, by the temporary adornments of life. Our true beauty is found in our roots, in our connection to something far greater than ourselves the Creator, the universe, the divine energy that flows through all things.
I think back to moments in my life when I felt as though everything was being taken from me. Times when the “leaves” of my life friendships, security, success fell one by one, leaving me feeling exposed and unsure of what was next. It was during these moments, when I had nothing left to cling to on the surface, that I realized how deeply I was rooted in something eternal. My connection to the Creator held me steady, reminding me that no season is permanent, and that the falling away of the old is simply part of the journey toward new growth.
In those moments, I learned not to fear the shedding. Instead, I learned to embrace it, knowing that it’s not the leaves that define me, but the roots that keep me grounded. The leaves are just temporary expressions of life’s seasons, but the roots that connection to the divine are what truly matter.
So, when life strips us bare, when we feel exposed and vulnerable, we need to remember that our roots are still strong, still drawing life from the eternal source. The world may see nothing but empty branches, but the Creator knows the depth of our roots, the strength that lies beneath the surface. And that’s where our true beauty is found not in the outward appearances that fade, but in the steady, unshakable foundation of our faith.
Let’s not be swayed by the opinions of others during these autumn moments. What does it matter if the world sees us in our most vulnerable state? What does it matter if they don’t understand the shedding, the falling away? Our beauty was never meant to be measured by the leaves on our branches. True beauty is found in the quiet resilience of our roots, in our unbreakable connection to the Creator.
I believe in dreams, not just the ones that come during times of abundance, but the ones that sustain us in seasons of loss. I believe in miracles, not just in the moments of harvest, but in the quiet transformations that happen beneath the surface, where no one else can see. Because that’s where life truly happens in the roots, in the connection we have with the divine, with the flow of love and grace that nourishes us, even when the world sees nothing but emptiness.
This season, this autumn, is not the end. It’s just a moment in time, a pause in the cycle of life. The leaves may fall, but they will grow back. The branches may be bare today, but tomorrow they will be full again, with even more life than before. And when that new season comes, we will look back and realize that this time of stripping away was not meant to harm us but to prepare us for something greater.
And in those moments when you feel utterly exposed, when it seems like defeat is creeping in don’t give up. Don’t let the temporary bareness fool you into thinking that your story is over. The moment you give in, the moment you hang your head in despair, you miss the miracle that’s just around the corner. You miss the blessings waiting to unfold. Just because things look bad doesn’t mean they are. Appearances deceive. What feels like loss is often the gateway to growth.
No matter how exposed you feel, no matter how defeated the situation appears, hold on. You are rooted, and you are stronger than you know. The Creator has not abandoned you. This season of shedding is just that a season. And seasons change. What you see now is not the end, it’s only the beginning of a deeper transformation.
